1) To expand the range of musical opportunities in the Fond du Lac area for acoustic musicians and fans of acoustic music.
2) Provide opportunities for local acoustic musicians to get together to "jam" with other local musicians, perform in front of an audience of their peers (in "open mic" settings), etc.
3) To cultivate an appreciation for acoustic music (i.e. folk, bluegrass, blues, folk/rock, etc.).
4) Present concerts for the community, and host concerts from outside performers to entertain the FDL community.
5) To promote participation from areas as far away as Green Bay, Sheboygan, Milwaukee, and Madison, Wisconsin.
6) To eventually be able to give back to the community through donations to charity, food pantries, music scholarships, and/or through other philanthropic opportunities as they present themselves.
These goals were developed by the original FAMA Board of Directors in FAMA's infancy in early 1997 and are subject to change. There is already an extremely successful concert series in place and there has been some discussion about trying to organize a folk festival. In addition, FAMA presented a two hour benefit concert featuring FAMA members that raised $1400 for the Arts Center of Fond du Lac's renovation efforts. (Most FAMA events, including the monthly jam/open mics, are held at the Windhover Arts Center (formerly the the Arts Center of Fond du Lac) in downtown Fond du Lac, Wisconsin). The FAMA Board has been very proud to have reached so many of its goals so early in its existence.
